Jim Hawkins is a moody, even petulant 15 year-old young man. He keeps mostly to himself, and is rather an introvert. He lives in the planet Montressor with his mother, Sarah, who runs the Benbow Inn. Jim's father, Leland, walked out on his family when Jim was eight. Although not exactly sociable, Jim is kind to children and not adverse to helping strangers in need. He's very good at mechanics, and can build things from spare
parts and outright junk. He enjoys a sport called Solar Surfing, which is basically a Sci-Fi mix between skating, snow boarding, surfing, and wind sailing. Jim longs for a strong, paternal figure, and knows he can be better than what he is, but he has a very hard time breaking out of his shell.

Jim is not very tall, around 5'. He has long brown hair, which he ties into a ponytail at the nape of his neck. Blue eyes.

He joins Tabula Rasa several weeks after returning from Treasure Planet, a planet used by space pirates to hide treasure for years, and which has been destroyed. He brings with him all of the following:

1 pair of khaki pants
1 black, long sleeved shirt
1 pair of boots
1 jacket
1 backpack: School notebook--mostly blank pages, pens, a
half-eaten candy bar, keys to his house, a folded flyer for
a Solar Surfing contest, a pack of chewing gum--with only
four sticks left, a leather bound journal, a folded sheet
of solar sail, tightly wound up [replacement].
1 solar surfer. It's basically a surfboard with a solar
sail attached; the sail can be folded into a groove along
the surfboard; it runs on solar power, but it also has two
small boosters at the back; it's power lasts only as long
as the sails have received enough sun, and if they aren't
broken.
